Sports Day 2018

On the 18th June 2018 Stoke Park School held a whole school sports day. The event was blessed with some sunshine and warm weather for the day. In the morning, Reception and KS1 took part in running, egg and spoon, fancy dress and skipping races. In the afternoon, the whole school spectated whilst KS2 competed in the same races as well as the baton race on the athletics track.

It was fantastic to see boys and girls of all ages competing with determination. There were smiles and cheers all around and the children demonstrated excellent behaviour and attitude through the whole day.

Well done to all the children for a great day and congratulations to overall winners -The Green Team!

Nursery and Reception Farm Trip

We got up close and personal to some wonderful farm animals today at Court Farm Country Park. Not only did we see new born lambs, help feed the friendly cows but also watched farmer Pete milk a cow! The falling snow added to this magical experience and I am sure the children will remember this trip for a very long time.

Dragonfly class trip

Last week, Reception children went on their very first school trip. We had a fantastic autumnal day at Westonbirt Arboretum observing the changes to the trees using our senses. We also went on a Gruffalo hunt and were thrilled to see him and the other characters in the story that we are studying.

Flying start in Dragonfly class

Reception children have had a fantastic start to school life! They have settled in brilliantly to school routines and have been busy having fun with their learning. The children voted to change our class story from Owl Babies to Hedgehog Babies so we made hedgehogs out of salt dough and made hedgehog bread!   We hope you like the pictures.

Keys to Success Assembly – Kalpna Woolf

On Friday, we had the pleasure to introduce the KS2 children to the inspirational and talented Kalpna Woolf. The children were inspired by her role as the Head of Production for BBC Bristol. She then talked about her most recent projects such as the creation of Bristol Food Connections, 91 Ways To Build A Global City to help bring communities together as well as her book ‘Spice Yourself Slim’. Thank you so much for visiting us!

A super start for Year 1!

Hazel Class should be very proud of the way they have settled into the new routines of school. Well done!  They have enjoyed re-enacting the story of George and The Dragon as well as creating their own stories using puppets. They have enjoyed sharing home work too.

We are excited to go on our trip to Cardiff Castle – please return your slips as soon as possible. It’s great to see so many children reading at home – please keep commenting and they will receive a special stamp in their reading record book. Please check book bags for spellings handed out on Fridays and tested the following Friday.

What a Wild Place!

Beech and Elm class have just come back from a very exciting but ever-so-tiring school trip to the Wild Place!  We had a peek at some really interesting animals including Okapi from middle Africa and reindeer, we got up close and personal with a variety of different lemar’s and we got lost in the butterfly maze!

We also all met Kelly and Tanya some volunteers at the Wild Place.  We learnt about plants and how they’re so important to helping us stay alive by generating the oxygen we need to breath. We even got to look closely at their different parts under a microscope.  Then, we planted our own seeds, I wonder if you chose Barley or wheat as your plant?  Lots of water, sunlight and nutritious soil and we’ll just have to wait and see.

Overall it was a really fun filled and informative day.  Special thanks to all the parents who came on the trip with us, we really appreciate your help!

The Oscars had better watch out!

Oak Class have been producing and starring in their own fantastic iMovie trailers. They’ve created their own mysterious stories based on ‘The Giant’s Necklace’ by Michael Morpurgo. They had a great time filming and there was even a stunt-double! See if you can spot them. Finally, they made popcorn boxes to hold their treats so that they could premier their trailers in style! 5 stars!

Life Bus Year 5

Meeting Harold

Meeting Harold

Oak class had a great time when they visited the Life Bus today. They were made to think about the choices that we will make in the future as they learnt about the effects of alcohol on the body and how medicines contain drugs. They learnt about how to be assertive and say no to other people when dealing with peer pressure – as a bystander they can help to support their friends. And finally they met Harold the giraffe who told a funny joke about Russian dolls – they’re full of themselves apparently! Thanks Harold and Pete!

Welcome Home Party

IMG_3093Oak Class celebrated in sci-fi style as they had a welcome home party to celebrate the return of Tim Peake back to planet Earth. From carrying out scientific experiments about air resistance to out of this world maths, a fabulous time was had by all! Well done everyone for creating such inventive costumes!
